PRESS RELEASE
Due to some worrying political developments in Zimbabwe, our leadership has resolved to postpone the holding of the MDC-UK & Ireland Provincial congress, which was scheduled for the 12th March 2011, to a later date to be announced.
The Secretary General of our party will be issuing a communication on the above issue soon. The UK & Ireland Leadership is in consultation with its structures on a way forward given this latest development.

Comrades,
ReplyDeleteRegarding the cancellation of the much anticipated Congress which was two days away, the generality of the UK membership and, indeed the leadership should really sit down and discuss why we are being treated like this by Harare. There has been a delay of close to two years to rectify anomalies in the UK Assembly but up to now nothing definite has come out. There has been no clear answer from the Secretary General to, at least, tell us the outcome of the Sipepa Moyo enquiry.
Now, as we dust up the past and prepare to put things right, we are told to cancel the Congress because the Chairman has been relieved of his post and another Minister has been arrested. People had prepared for this event and it was billed to be the culmination of dedicated efforts by cadres of our party of excellence to show that we have a vision, here in the UK, to move a gear up in our determination to continue the struggle to free our country from tyranny. It has all come to nought. All the preparations people had done, including booking time off shifts and re-arranging schedules, have all been brushed aside.
The arrests and setting aside of Moyo's appointment are all part of ZanuPF's strategy to disrupt the MDC Congresses everywhere and by cancelling them we are falling right into their trap. That is what they want. Their dirty campaign has already started at home, lest some of us are not aware. In any case, are Moyo and Mangoma the only officials who can officiate at our congress? Pending the resolution of their problems, must the business of the party be suspended? Why is our Province being treated like children?
Is it not fair that we demand answers to all these numerous questions regarding our party? I personally feel we should have gone ahead with our congress unless this is a sinister ploy to ensure a certain result, going by the e-mails circulating in our party circles.
Let this be a point of discussion because the UK and Ireland Province has lost a lot of ground while Harare prevaricates on the way forward. We ARE the party. Our concerns must be heard and be answered!!
